Vodafone Email – Vodafone NZ phasing out their email services

UPDATE: Since we originally wrote this article, Vodafone are extending the phase out to other email addresses as well.

Vodafone is phasing out their email services. Vodafone say that they are not able to provide the level of service that customers require for an email service

The email services that will be phased out will include

  • clear.net.nz
  • es.co.nz
  • ihug.co.nz
  • paradise.net.nz
  • pcconnect.co.nz
  • quik.co.nz
  • vodafone.co.nz
  • vodafone.net.nz
  • wave.co.nz

On their website it states that customers have had too many issues with email, and Vodafone have been unable to fix it due to the age of their email system.  Problems have included huge amounts of spam and delays in receiving their emails.  This means that all these Vodafone customers that use these email services, will need to find a new email provider to store their email. Lounge Network can help businesses affected by this.

We have always recommended that businesses never use the free ISP provided email address as their primary email account. Not only do ISPs often have problems with their email services, you also don’t own the email address. In this case Vodafone owns these email domain names, so anyone using a vodafone.net.nz, ihug.co.nz, clear.net.nz etc. email address is only renting it off Vodafone.

Using an ISP provided email address also ties you to the email provider. If you decide to move to another ISP, you will either lose the email address, or you may have to pay a fee to the ISP in order to keep using the email address. We do however still see many businesses with the the free ISP email address, plastered all over their business cards and on corporate signage. The other thing is that using your ISPs email address looks somewhat unprofessional, as it makes it look like your business is too cheap to pay for a domain name and a domain based email service, or the business isn’t technical enough to set up a domain based email address.

The best solution in our opinion, is for all NZ business to Purchase a NZ Domain Name, and use domain email addresses for their business. For example name@yourbusiness.nz, or name@yourbusiness.co.nz.  The Lounge Network provides free advice to our clients when selecting a domain name that is purchased through us.  For a business, a domain name only costs a small amount a year, and it can also be used for your website in the future. A domain name can also be used with any domain based email provider, such as the Lounge Network, and you can set up as many email addresses as you want. Many businesses will already have a domain name setup for their website, so they should be able to use this for their email. You can register a domain today with us, through our NZ Domain Manager website at www.domains.loungenetwork.co.nz , and you will also get free unlimited email forwarding to another email address. Alternatively you can also link it up to NZ web hosting from us, which includes New Zealand hosted email, including Webmail, IMAP, SMTP and POP connections. Learn more about more about our email services here.

We are also 100% NZ owned and all support we provide is providers by NZers. Several NZ providers have moved to using overseas call centres or overseas customer support centres, however all of our customer support is 100% NZ based.
