Google Pixel NZ Review – Indepth review of the Google Pixel Phone NZ

One of the most talked about new Smart Phones of 2016 is the Google Pixel NZ, and this is a Google Pixel NZ Review. The Google Pixel comes in two physical sizes, the normal Google Pixel, and the Pixel XL. This is the first Smart Phone that Google has designed from the ground up.

Google Pixel NZ ReviewOur Google Pixel NZ Review will look at both the Google Pixel NZ Hardware and Software, and will list the Pros and Cons of buying one.

Google Pixel NZ Hardware

Looking at the hardware itself, the Google Pixel NZ does look a lot like the Apple iPhone devices, with the major visual difference being that it is missing the home button and touch sensor on the bottom. Instead it has a touch ID type sensor on the back. Although the hardware of the Google Pixel NZ was designed by Google, the actual hardware is made by HTC. HTC are however a well know brand in the Smart Phone market. The Google Pixel NZ is mainly all made from Glass and Aluminum, and the build quality looks to be very good.

The Google Pixel NZ Googles Pixel is made from  Aerospace-grade aluminum unibody, and the  Glass shade is 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 4  .  For iPhone users who were put off buying an iPhone because there was no headphone jack, the Google Pixel does feature a fully integrated headphone jack.

The Google Pixel NZ and Google Pixel XL NZ comes in 3 colours. ‘Quite Black’, ‘Very Silver’ and  ‘Really Blue’. The ‘Really Blue’ colour is a ‘Limited Edition’ model.

Our Google Pixel NZ Review shows that the actual internal hardware specs of the Google Pixels phones are impressive. The regular Pixel has a 5.0 inch FHD AMOLED screen at 441ppi, while the Pixel XL has a 5.5 inch  QHD AMOLED  screen  at 534ppi . So the screen is high resolution and nice and bright.

Both phones feature  4GB LPDDR4 RAM for memory, and storage is either 32GB or 128GB. The processor is a  Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 821 , 2.15Ghz + 1.6Ghz, 64Bit Quad-Core.

Google Pixel NZ Software

As of writing the Google Pixel runs Android 7.1 Nougat, and it is said to include 2 years of OS upgrades, and 3 years of security updates from launch, . This however may not compare all that well with iPhones, where Apple is known to support some iPhone models with iOS updates for up to 4 years and sometimes longer.

The Google Pixel NZ comes with Googles AI Assistant, and is a big improvement over Google Now. Googles AI Assistant has the potential to be better and more useful than Siri, as it can draw upon the power of Googles tools and knowledge. It also allows you to have Siri like conversations.

The camera on the Google Pixel NZ is also very good. It is 12 Mega pixels, and is fast and responsive.

There are two models of the Google Pixel, one for North America, and one for the Rest of the World. Buyers from New Zealand are recommended to buy the international world model. However as of writing, it appears the US model may also work on most NZ networks. You should however check this with your mobile service provider first.

If you are buying a Google Pixel NZ from NZ, please note that it won’t have any warranty, and you will be paying GST and import duties and associated fees, when it arrives in the country. So this will add quite a bit onto the price. If you want to find out what this may cost you, please visit the ‘What My Duty’ Website.

Google Pixel NZ Conclusion

Our overall conclusion is that if you you like the Android, and are looking to upgrade your smart-phone, the Pixel looks to be a good choice. It is however not the most exciting phone on the market, and it looks a lot like an iPhone in many ways, albeit an ugly cousin. The other major issue many people will have, is that it is expensive to buy outright. But apart from that , it looks to be a very good all-round phone. We hope you enjoyed reading our Google Pixel NZ Review.
